Registration Overview

• Sign-ups are on a first-come, first-served basis.

• Many classes fill up in advance, so early registration is strongly recommended.

• Name, phone number, and email for each student is required for class communications.

• Prepayment of class fees in full is required at the time you sign up to reserve your space, unless other arrangements are made.

• All materials fees are collected at the beginning of the class by the teacher.

• By signing up, you are saying that you have read this entire page including our refund policy directly below.

Payment Options:

Credit Card: Credit card payments can be made online through our Square Marketplace site, or in-person at the Handmade Academy location.  Once completing online registration you will receive a confirmation email, which will verify your registration for class. If paying with a credit card in person please call the Handmade Academy prior to the day of class to confirm your enrollment.


Check: Accepted in person or by mail. When mailing payment be sure to include a completed registration form with payment. Mailing directions are provided on the registration form. If a check is returned from the bank for any reason you will be responsible to pay a $25 fee in addition to the class fee.


Cash: Accepted in person only at the Handmade Academy location. Do not mail cash for class payment. You must register class by phone or email before the day of the class to secure a seat.  Call the Handmade Academy at 206-747-9503 to secure a seat.

How to Register:

When Paying with Credit Card Online: Find the date listing for the class you would like to attend, and complete the purchase process following the checkout instructions. Once completed, you will receive a confirmation email that will verify your registration for the class. If you do not receive a confirmation email before five days before class, please call the Handmade Academy at 206-747-9503 to verify your registration.

When Paying with Check, Cash, or Credit Card in Person: If you are paying for a class by check, cash or want to use a credit card in person, first verify the class you want to attend is available by finding the date listing on our class page. If the class is available, please call the Handmade Academy at 206-747-9503 to register, or send an email to In your email be sure to list the class title, and date and time of class. We will respond with an email confirmation letting you know you are registered for the class.  Payment for the class and materials fees will be taken before the beginning of class.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

No Refunds:  All payments are non-refundable unless a class is canceled by the Handmade Academy. If you cannot attend a class you have signed up for, please select one of the options listed below.

Reschedule: If notified with at least seven days notice, you have the option to move your registration to a later class.  There is $15 administration fee for this option due when scheduling is changed.

Half credit for future class: If notified less than seven days, but more than 48 before class you are eligible for a half credit of your class fee to use toward a future class. You cannot be refunded the half credit.

There are no refunds or credits for no-shows. If you sign up for a class, and fail to make it for any reason whatsoever, the class fee will not be refunded.  Half credit will not be provided for future classes.

Class cancellations: If class registration is below five students for any class the teacher has the option to cancel the class with a minimum of five days before the class is scheduled. If a class is canceled you will be contacted at the phone number or email you provided when you registered for class.  You will have a choice of receiving a refund, or receiving credit for a later class.

If a student appears to be intoxicated, disrupts class or interferes with teacher ability to conduct class, they will be asked to leave the premises, and will not be given a refund for any class fees paid.

What to Bring

Your class may require a materials fee.  This fee will be stated in the class listing.  This fee can be paid with cash or credit card.

The Handmade Academy will typically provide everything you will need for your class.  If something is required for your class, it will be stated in the class description.

What Not to Bring

Pets are not allowed in class—service animals are the only exception. Additionally please do not bring any additional people (spouses, children, etc.) as they can be a distraction to paying students.


Also please do not wear synthetic fragrances to class. Many people are allergic to synthetic fragrances, and they can disrupt our classes which mainly use natural fragrances only.

Photo and Video Policy

We do allow photos to be taken during class, but we do not allow  video recording of any kind (such as with smartphones, cameras or video cameras). If you do wish to take photos, please be as unobtrusive as possible.  Make sure you disable the flash, and any sounds your camera can make before class starts.   Please avoid photographing other students without their permission, or getting in the way of other student’s class experience.

Age Restrictions for Classes

Our soapmaking classes are typically restricted to those 18 and older, as we will be working with hazardous materials.  Classes that do not involve using sodium hydroxide are open to younger students.

Class Handout Replacements

If you have taken a class within the last 12 months, you can get a replacement copy for a $20 processing fee. To request a replacement copy, please contact the Handmade Academy with your request. You may pay the processing fee with check or credit card. Once we receive payment, we can either mail out a copy of the handout, or email one to you.


If it has been more than 12 months since the date of your class, you may order an Virtual Class handout which sells for $45. The Virtual Class handouts are the the most current tutorials used in our classes, but do not include class time.

Private classes

Private class fees start at $295 for three hours of class time with a maximum of four people.  (Most class subjects are covered in a three hour period.)  Each additional hour is $100, and each additional person is $50. Private lessons include all class handouts and recipes.

A private class must be booked a minimum of two weeks in advance to reserve your date and time, and to give the teacher time to prepare and gather materials.  A  non-refundable deposit of 50% is due at booking.  Final payment is due no less than 48 hours before the lesson, or the class may be canceled, unless other arrangements have been made.

If you cancel the class with more than 48 hours notice, we will refund any funds paid to us beyond the non-refundable 50% deposit. If you have not paid the balance, you will forfeit your deposit.

If you cannot attend for any reason, call us at 206-747-9503, and we can attempt to reschedule the private lesson, however a rescheduling fee of $75 may be applied.

We are unable to offer any refunds or class credit if you cancel with less than 48 hours notice.
